When it comes to selling something or avoiding becoming a victim, there are common excuses people often use to justify their actions or lack thereof.

Many aspiring freelancers hesitate to pursue opportunities or charge what they're worth because they doubt their skills or worry about rejection. This lack of confidence can hold them back from achieving their full potential and creating a successful freelance career.

Carol Tice (freelancer mom)likely emphasizes the importance of self-belief, determination, and taking proactive steps to overcome these obstacles. By providing guidance, support, and practical advice, she empowers other writers to build their confidence, hone their craft, and pursue lucrative opportunities in the freelancing industry. Through her own success and the success stories of those she's mentored, she demonstrates that it's possible to thrive as a freelance writer with the right mindset and approach. The common thread among struggling freelancers that she has observed is often a lack of confidence in their own abilities and a fear of taking action.

When she inquires about the marketing plans of individuals lacking sufficient clients, they typically don't have one in place. More often than not, they aren't consistently engaging in marketing efforts.

No amount of advice can substitute for the effort you put in.

If you're struggling to attract new clients, it might be worth examining whether you're making any of these common excuses for not actively selling your products or services.

1."I'll do it later."

Delaying action with the excuse of "I'll do it later" can lead to missed opportunities to sell items or address important matters that could impact one's safety or well-being.Jumping into a new field or business without sufficient knowledge or clarity about your goals can be detrimental.

Rushing without understanding can lead to mistakes and setbacks. That said, there are numerous ways to cautiously.Put yourself and your new business out there safely even when you lack extensive experience by starting small, seeking mentorship, networking, and focusing on continuous learning and improvement.

The crucial aspect is to reflect and inquire within yourself!

Am I genuinely lacking knowledge, or is fear holding me back?

2. My brand isn't prepared for a sales push.

Thinking you can't start selling because your branding elements like your logo, website, email newsletter, or invoicing software aren't ready yet is a common excuse that can keep your business stagnant.

For years.

Unlike the legitimate concern of not knowing enough, this excuse is often just classic procrastination.

If your website or other branding elements aren't up to par because you lack the funds to hire a designer, take action to earn the money needed to invest in improving them.

If you're struggling to find the perfect business name, consider using your own name for the time being. You can always incorporate or set up an LLC later down the line.

3. "I didn't know it was valuable."

Lack of knowledge about the value of what they possess can lead people to either undersell their belongings or ignore potential scams or dangers. It can have several implications:

  • Underselling

  • Ignoring scams

  • Disregarding dangers

While it's acceptable to build your business gradually, it's crucial to ensure its growth over time. If you find that your business isn't growing at the desired pace, consider allocating resources differently. This might involve investing in additional childcare or hiring a cleaner to free up time for more focused work. If you've already optimized your non-work tasks, consider shifting some working hours towards more effective marketing strategies to stimulate growth.

4. "I already waste time on marketing".

Although the focus of this post is on selling, marketing is crucially linked to it. However, many struggling FreelanceMoms find themselves in a situation where they feel like they're marketing but aren't seeing results. We've discussed a few reasons for this:

  • Constantly adjusting your website isn't marketing.

  • Continuously researching marketing strategies without implementing them isn't marketing.

  • Merely contemplating marketing without actively reaching out to potential clients isn't marketing.

Yet, we haven't addressed the fact that persisting with ineffective marketing strategies that fail to generate sales is also not marketing.

As saying of Albert Einstein:

'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.'"

Do you invest a significant amount of time responding to job advertisements on platforms like Craigslist?Consider utilizing platforms such as BloggingPro, Problogger, or Journalism Jobs, better to find new clients from scratch

Have you fully utilized your network by asking them to spread the word about your new graphic design business? Visit the websites of local businesses, identify those in need of a makeover, and reach out to them via phone.

Has the stream of coaching clients from your webinar series with renowned coaches run dry?

Begin guest blogging on platforms like PsychologyToday.com or a similar large website that aligns with your coaching niche but isn't focused on coaching itself, thus avoiding direct competition.

5. "I'm swamped with my current work".

If you're neglecting marketing because you're overwhelmed with work, it's crucial to ask yourself:

Are you earning the income you aspire to?

If you're putting in a substantial amount of effort but still falling short of your income targets, it's a sign that something isn't quite right. Perhaps it's time to reevaluate your business model and make necessary adjustments to ensure your efforts align more closely with your financial goals.

We recently discussed the drawbacks of initially setting low prices for your business, and one of the most significant is finding yourself working long hours for insufficient compensation.

Consistently engaging in marketing activities for your business is essential not only to maintain a steady flow of clients but also to create options in case you lose a client or complete all your projects simultaneously. Moreover, regular marketing efforts help position you to continually increase your prices, reflecting the growing value and expertise you bring to your clients.

Your existing clients are accustomed to a certain pricing structure, making it challenging to implement significant price increases. Therefore, the most effective approach to charging higher rates is by acquiring new business and establishing these higher prices with new clients.

Aren't you eager to increase your income for the work you're already putting in? If so,

It's time to take action and actively promote yourself!
